The Christ Evangelical Church at Athens, Wisconsin was the scene of a pretty wedding Thursday forenoon at 11 o’clock, Aug. 22, 1935, when Miss Ruth Neuenschwander, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neuenschwander of Athens, became the bride of Elmer Kreie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kreie of Stetsonville. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. Schieler. Mrs. Lawrence Neuenschwander was matron of honor and Miss Amy Kreie, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. Lawrence Neuenschwander, brother of the bride, was best man, and William Hamling Jr. of Chicago, was groomsman.

The altar was decorated for the occasion with baskets of gladioli. Miss Florence Fulmer, accompanied by A. Neuenschwander on the violin, played the Lohengrin Wedding March as the wedding party filed into the church and the Mendelssohn Wedding March at the conclusion of the ceremony. Miss Falmer sang "At Downing" and Miss Eunice Wilke sang "Because."

The bride was attired in a plum shade gown with brown and gold accessories and carried a shower bouquet of autumn flowers. Her attendants wore dresses of harmonized colors and carried bouquets of sweet peas.

The ceremony was followed by a wedding dinner and reception at the home of the bride’s parents for immediate relatives with covers laid for forty guests.

Both the bride and groom have been teaching rural school in this vicinity for the past several years, the bride having taught in the Athens schools for four years and the groom in the same school for five years.

After a short wedding trip to the southern part of the state, Mr. and Mrs. Kreie will make their home at Bruckerville where Mr. Kreie will teach school and operate a poultry farm.
